Hilo, Hawaii (The Big Island)
Pulling into port in Hilo,
we see our first of many
waterfalls on the coast.
Sun rising on Mauna
Loa as we still
cruise in.
The clouds lift and
we see that even Hawaii can
get snow!
Trip to a Macadamian nut
factory where we find our first
batch of beautiful tropical
flowers.
More flowers Halema'uma'u crater at
Volcano National Park
A little closer look.
The plumes of yellow in the center
are sulfur rising up.
Deb in front of
what used to be a lake
of molton lava,
back in the day.
Ditto for me More snow capped
tops, from a safe warm
distance.
Steam escaping from
a rock pile. I was
the volunteer to hike
to this area to see
what was there.
A view from
the inside of the
Thurston Lava Tube.
More flowers at
a botanical garden
stop.
Can you ever
see enough of these
colors?
Next up is
a visit to
Rainbow Falls.
Deb poses for
the film camera
(Excuse the scan)
My turn Appropriately enough,
a rainbow at
Rainbow Falls.
The cruise ship
takes a detour to Kilauea
to see the lava flowing
into the ocean at night.
These are the
best I could do ...
which is way better then
the rest of our
group!
