The Story of the Tuba Tribune

OK, so you're asking yourself, just what IS the Tuba Tribune?

Well, it all started way back in my senior year of high school at Marist.
It was the custom for some seniors to conduct the pep band for basketball
and as prez you better believe I got a turn! Part of the job was to
pick out the songs for the night and give out a program of songs to the
band. Well, fellow senior tuba player Bob Maiers had a game ahead of me
and whipped up quite the impressive double-sided program done up like a restaurant
menu. I was determined not to be outdone however. Who is not surprised??

I chose the format of a newspaper, and invited both Bob and another member of my section,
Scott "Little Lumpy" Fineron to participate. The result was this 8 page one time
edition of the Tuba Tribune.

Its online mostly so I can show off a little bit of my early humor, or at least attempt
at it. Also just cause this is my webpage and if I wanna put up lame crap, I will!!!

I admit, there are a lot of inside jokes in there. So unless you were a member
of the band in '89-90 you probably won't get everything. Hell, you probably
needed to be a senior that year to come close. However there is a nice collection
of musical comics ... mostly Far Sides. And a rather controversial classified ad
that I can't believe didn't get me busted since the former band moderator
mentioned was a dean of discipline at the time!!! :-o
If anyone is ever curious about a particular jab, drop me a line and I'd be happy to
clue you in.

Here's a clue for the Kirsten ad ... a certain unnamed someone was teased unmercifully
about his girlfriend at the time. In fact, we had started counting the # of insults made
about either him or his gal. I was the original keeper of the records beginning with
band tour our senior year. A few short years later we all gathered together at a
neighborhood restraunt where we counted up to insult #5000 and retired the by now
suicidal man's jibes :-)
Here is my well worn souvenir from that night ... insult #4994, signed by the man
himself and now available for the world to peruse should they make it this far ...
(Last name airbrushed to protect the innocent ... or guilty as the case may be)

[# 4994] [Back of the paper]

Anyway, without further ado, I present the Tuba Tribune from Spring of 1990 (exact date
unknown, however I am pretty sure it was one of the last games of the regular season).
One of these days I'll try to research the exact date, until then, live with the unknown.
